Camel racing in Oman

Camel racing is a deeply rooted and popular sport in Oman’s culture. These races typically 

take place during the winter months at specialized tracks near Barka and Al Batinah, when 

the weather is cooler. The events attract numerous spectators and offer an exciting 

spectacle. Camels, specially bred and trained for racing, reach impressive speeds on the 

tracks. Modern technology has also been integrated, using small robots as jockeys to 

control the camels. Beyond the sport, camel racing is a social event that brings families and communities together to celebrate local traditions.
