Luxury watches - Part 1
When and how did the idea of building a luxury watch ‘Made in Germany’ come to life?
The idea came about 15 years ago. At that time, the hype surrounding Rolex began and I thought it was time to bring a luxury watch ‘Made in Germany’ onto the market. Almost everyone around me was wearing the same watch - some real, some fake. Six years ago, I started making contacts and sourcing materials, such as movements. I then held my first watch in my hand in 2020.
What was the biggest challenge when it came to watches?
The biggest challenge was producing in such small quantities. There are only 99 of the first watches. It was extremely difficult to have dials, cases and other components produced in such small quantities. At first, nobody wanted to produce such small quantities for me, which made production very expensive - I hadn't reckoned with that. In addition to the competitive pressure, jealousy in Germany is also a major challenge. We have a pronounced culture of envy here: anyone who gets something off the ground is often penalised for it.
What materials do you use?
We always endeavour to use the best materials. Our bracelets and cases are always
made of surgical steel (316L). The clockworks come from Switzerland from the renowned
company ETA and are individually finished by us by hand.
What was your personal background?
I come from Bremen and originally trained as a dance teacher.I ran a large dance school in Diepholz. On 5 December 1992, I had a serious traffic accident in which I injured two
vertebrae (cervical and neck vertebrae). As a result, I was physically very unwell for a while. Today I am healthy and exercise six times a week. After the accident, I set up a trading
agency for household goods, which developed successfully. Later, I started buying and selling property. By chance, I was approached by star photographer Stephan Pick from Cologne and that's how I got into modelling. For years, I worked as a model and singer in the music industry, which gave me a lot of pleasure. I had the opportunity to work
with great artists such as the blind singer Joana Zimmer and the baritone Boris Martinovich. But the music industry was too superficial for me in the long run and I wanted to achieve
something bigger. That's how the idea for the luxury watch came about.
