Golden Islands | The quiet beauty of nature
The islands are also affectionately called "Îles d'Or" "Golden Islands", because in the light of the sun the cliffs shimmer in warm golden tones.
Like little gems, the islands of the Îles d'Hyères lie off the coast of the Côte d'Azur and seem rather inconspicuous at first glance. But as soon as you take the ferry from the Giens peninsula and reach the largest of the islands, Porquerolles, in just a few minutes, you intuitively realize what wonderful islets are waiting to be discovered here. In addition to Porquerolles, there are Port-Cros and Île du Levant, as well as other uninhabited islets grouped together as Îles d'Hyères.
Islands for the quiet sounds
Even though many people have now discovered the islands for themselves and come to the islets mainly for day trips due to the limited overnight accommodations, they have retained their very own character.
The exceptionally beautiful nature, the dreamlike bays, the intensely blue sea reminiscent of the Caribbean and a lush flora and fauna make the islands unique natural areas, which have been under protection for many decades. Accordingly, on the islands you can experience completely new facets of the Côte d'Azur. Here it is quiet, the islands belong to pedestrians and cyclists.
And what a striking sensation when suddenly the constant background noise that dominates our lives in cities, villages and densely populated regions is silenced! What a change in perception when sounds of nature are allowed to come back into the acoustic foreground! Birds, insects, the surf of the sea, the wind ... everything unites to form an orchestra that follows its very own score. Here, on the islands, you can listen to the symphonies of nature, which are always rewritten and never lose their fascination.
