Paper ash in road construction
Paper is patient, so they say, and paper can be reused many times.
At some point, however, all recycling possibilities come to an end and the residual material paper, like other residual materials, is incinerated, thermally recycled, as it is called in technical jargon.
In Spain, a project is currently underway to recycle the paper ash and use it as filler in the substructure of roads and highways. The project is part of the EU paperChain project. Paper ash as a binder can replace cement because it meets the same technical requirements as cement. Discarded waste paper thus remains a valuable material and helps save CO2.
