Varied Maremma
Former marshland and in the hinterland rather rough and brittle: the Maremma in southern Tuscany is rarely the destination of tourists traveling to “Tuscany”.
And that’s precisely why the journey here is worth- while! Historically, the Etruscans have left much from their time, picturesque towns like Pitigliano on its tufa base, Castiglione della Pescaia on the Tyrrhenian Sea or Massa Marittima in the middle of the Colline Metallifere, the Tuscan ore mountains, are worth a visit and stay, the landscape anyway. The wines are gaining more and more lovers and culinary are the fish soup Caldaro, excellent wild boar dishes and excellent desserts, such as the “Sfratto” from Pitigliano, a hit.
